A logo maker’s perspective to design logos

There are many successful logo designs available online. Some we watch on television, bill boards, etc. on daily basis. Every logo design has a background; there are brains of logo makers. Smart business owners hire logo designers for logo creation purposes. Following is the designing perspective from a logo maker.

1.       Research and analysis
Research is important to have significant and relevant brand identity. Study the client brief and highlight the brand key values. Figure out ways to communicate these brand values. Have discussion with the client and ask many questions to figure out what the client wants.

2.       Universality
The design must work with all colors and on backgrounds of both white and black. Scalability is important which means that the design must work on all sizes from thumbnails to billboards.

3.       Diversified portfolio
Believe in your work and make the clients do the same. Create the concepts which are able to connect with the client’s target customers. Make impactful brand signs, add your personal style and execute creative and diversified ideas.

4.       Simplicity
From the beginning, the concept must include simplicity in it. Strong basic concept supports complex gradients and fancy effects. Keep the concepts visually simple. Do not add all ideas in one design. Communicate every message with a different craft.

5.       Vectors
Use vector based software. This also helps in scalability without compromise on quality of work.

6.       Relevancy
Make sure the concept is direct, to-the-point and meaningful. It must have a direct communication with target audience.

7.       Ask questions
Before and after designing concepts, logo designer asks questions from oneself. Is the communication effective? Will the target audiences understand the message? Will the concept for the future of the company?

8.       Color
The client’s brief defines the color scheme. Understand the client’s requirements and work it out. If it doesn’t work, change it. Choose right color to express the meaning, and build the target audience perceptions.

9.       Experimentation
Do experiments with different backgrounds, color schemes, type and mark positions and shapes to have the best design in hand.

10.   Connection
Create strong connection between your client and client’s target audience. Capture ideas from others’ concepts; not concepts themselves. Do not copy!

11.   Do not expect from first try
First try doesn’t always work. The logo design needs time and re-dos. The successful design needs experiment and communication.

12.   Polish
After turning the concept into designs, give yourself time. Re-think of what you have created. Cross check the work with the client brief. Give last touch or polish, if required.
